Liberty Wing sees end of an era

Master Sgt. Gerald K.S. Mitchell, 709th Airlift Squadron, sits at the flight engineer panel of a C-5B aircraft during Desert Storm in 1990. Mitchell is the last C-5B flight engineer assigned to the 512th Airlift Wing, Dover Air Force Base, Del. He is scheduled to retire Aug. 4, 2013, after serving 30 years as a traditional reservist at Dover AFB. Mitchell's career encompassed five years as an aircraft mechanic and 25 years as a flight engineer, recording more than 3,000 flying hours, including combat flying hours in support of operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Restore Hope, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
