1st Lt. Prince Chavis, a civil engineer officer with the 822nd Civil Engineer Flight, arrived at Dover Air Force base in July to aid in the CE project management of Dover's runway construction.

Chavis is a member of what is called a staff augmentation team or "S-Team."

An S-Team is a unique Air Force team of technical and subject matter experts. Chavis' team is based out of Naval Air Station Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas which has been sending team members on rotations to Dover since

March of this year.

"A lot of my teammates work in their civilian jobs as engineers, architects and project managers doing similar work for other airfield construction projects," said Chavis.

A civil engineering S-Team provides engineering management, technical design, construction management and more to Air Force operations and locations across the globe.

"My favorite part of my job is that I get to travel to various projects and share my knowledge," said Chavis. "A lot of people don't know the S-Teams exist."

The runway construction project at Dover is unique since it includes demolition and replacement of the runway, navaids (navigational markers), lighting, and the runway's instrument controlled landing system, said Chavis.

Chavis is completing his annual training days here and is the last member from the 822nd CEF to do a rotation at Dover.
