DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- The 512th Airlift Wing recognized its newest staff sergeants during a Noncommissioned Officer Induction Ceremony held here April 2, 2016. Almost 90 inductees read the NCO oath during the ceremony administered by Col. Scott Durham, 512th Airlift wing commander, in front of a crowd of fellow Airmen and family members.
“I feel this is a great step towards transitioning from an Airman into a noncommissioned officer,” said Staff Sgt. Tatiana Baines, 512th Force Support Squadron knowledge manager. “I’m proud to be called a leader and hope to be a positive influence on the Airman that I come in contact with.”
Speaking at the induction ceremony was the wing’s highest ranking enlisted member, Chief Master Sgt. Brad E. Ferguson, 512th AW command chief. Ferguson highlighted the importance of the transition into the NCO ranks and recalled personal and professional experiences.
“It’s important to internalize how transitions make individuals feel. These life events have impact and importance attached to them on a personal and professional level,” said Ferguson. “Going from the airmen to the NCO ranks holds great significance and responsibility for these new staff sergeants.” said Ferguson.
The induction ceremony has historically served as a rite of passage to Airmen selected for advancement into the NCO corps. The NCOs taking their oaths at the event will now be tasked with leading and providing mentorship to fellow service members for the remainder of their Air Force Reserve careers.
