Since its beginnings more than 60 years ago, the 512th Airlift Wing has maintained a tradition of honor and service by providing airlift support during our nation's humanitarian and military campaigns. By preserving this identity in documents, publications and photographs, historians have helped Air Force leadership better understand where the Liberty Wing has been and where it is going.

To continue the Historian Office's mission, the 512th Airlift Wing is seeking a qualified enlisted candidate to cross train into the historian career field.

Some of the duties of Air Force historians are advising leadership on historical and museum program matters, collecting and indexing historical publications, preparing statistical summaries in graphs, charts and tables and evaluating data for accuracy and pertinence.

"The historian's work speaks directly to our wing's heritage...to what we do and where we've come as an organization," Chief Master Sgt. Brad E. Ferguson, the 512th AW command chief.

According to Senior Master Sgt. Jo Ann Shaw, 512th AW's recruiting office flight chief, selected candidates will interview for the historian position and recieve 20 days of specilized training at Maxwell AFB, Ala.

The position, which has an authorized rank of technical sergeant, requires candidates to  have an ASVAB score of at least 72 in the general category and a 5-skill level or higher in any AF career field.
