AFRC salutes its public servants

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --  "Public service must be more than doing a job efficiently and honestly. It must be a complete dedication to the people and to the nation." - Margaret Chase Smith

For almost 30 years, the first week of May has been designated as Public Service Recognition Week. This year, May 3rd starts the week-long celebration of the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.

"This week is designated by Congress as Public Service Recognition Week and I find myself grateful for the opportunity to thank you for all you do on behalf of our nation," said Maj. Gen. Richard "Beef" Haddad, Air Force Reserve Command vice commander. "Each and every day, I have the pleasure of witnessing firsthand your remarkable contributions and achievements. Even during these difficult times, you continue working to find innovative solutions to complex issues. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and I want you to know that I am proud to serve with you."

The Air Force Reserve and Air Force Reserve Command employ a total of approximately 13,000 civilians world-wide. These public servants work toward one goal, which is to 'Provide Combat-Ready Forces to Fly, Fight and Win'.

"The work that you do on a daily basis affects millions of lives," said Haddad. "We all serve our country in our own way but together we all serve the people of this great nation."

One of the goals of PSRW is to connect and educate citizens nationwide to the work of their government. So, AFRC has decided to highlight one public servant each day of PSRW, which is May 3 - 9. People can read about their job, why they decided to serve and how they impact the mission.

"In reality everyone deserves to be recognized," he said. "However, since we can't squeeze 13,000 people in six days, I like to take this opportunity to say thank you to each and every one of you for all you do, without you we couldn't complete our mission."
