Twenty new noncommissioned officers were honored at the 512th Airlift Wing NCO Induction Ceremony Aug. 6 at the Air Mobility Command Museum.

The annual ceremony recognizes 512th AW members who have obtained NCO status. This particular ceremony acknowledged individuals promoted to staff sergeant from July 2005 to May 2006.

Col. David H. Wuest, 512th AW vice commander, administered the NCO oath during the event.

Capt. Cathy Milhoan, 512th Memorial Affairs Squadron, presided as guest speaker. She shared her leadership experiences as an enlisted troop in both the Army National Guard and the 512th AW.

The function was organized by the Reserve wing's Top 3, a leadership organization comprised of senior NCOs. Senior Master Sgt. Ara Shishmanian, President of the Top 3 and a member of the 46th Aerial Port Squadron, said the event was the third NCO induction in five years.

"There was a long break due to all of the activations; a lot of people were busy," said Sergeant Shishmanian.

Jen Uriah drove four hours from Virginia with her newborn daughter, Alissa, to share the experience with her husband, Staff Sgt. Michael Uriah, 512th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

"I'm proud of my husband," said Mrs. Uriah.

When asked if she helped contribute to her husband's promotion, she said she always urged him to trade his video games for study materials.

Sergeant Shishmanian said having family members present for the ceremony is an extra bonus for reservists and the wing.

"The purpose of the induction is to recognize promotions, leadership, camaraderie and unit development," he said.
