512th OG annihilates 9th AS 23-8

John Dowgos' two home runs in the second inning and game-ending catch in left center field paved the way to the winner's circle for the 512th Operations Group softball team in their game against the 9th Airlift Squadron at the softball field here June 25.

The reservists had a sluggish start in the first, as only Jason Jones crossed the plate, while the 9th AS propelled five players across the diamond in the first inning.

The top of the second inning saw the shellacking of Flyers by the bat of Dowgos, who ushered in the first of his two home runs. Josh Redden mimicked Dowgos and rocketed another home run, driving in two more runs.

Dowgos added his second homer at the top of the inning, ending the 512th's 13-run rally.

The bottom of the second saw one run for the 9th, making the score 14-6 with the reservists on top.

The 512th tallied up four more runs in the top of the third while hog-tying the 9th who scored nothing.

The Liberty Wing was up 17-6 going into the top of the fourth, but reversed roles ended up with the 512th going scoreless and the Flyers adding two runs.

Scott Tullis launched the 512th OG's third homer early in the fifth. The reservists added another five runs during the inning, while the 9th drew a blank, scoring no runs and Dowgos caught a fly ball for the final out.

In the end, the 512th OG overwhelmed the Flyers 23-8 over five innings invoking the mercy rule.
