The Liberty Wing's senior recruiter is looking to recruit more than reservists; he's also looking to add to the ranks of the Air Force Reserve Recruiting Service.

Known as "Recruit the Recruiter," the program's aim is to seek Air Force Reserve applicants to fill recruiting positions in locations across the globe, said Senior Master Sgt. Henry McCaffrey, a recruiter for 18 years and the senior recruiter for zones throughout Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

"Serving as a recruiter and being able to contribute to the Citizen Airmen force is an incredible reward," said Sergeant McCaffrey.

Reservists, who'd like to expand their career horizons, can begin by contacting Sergeant McCaffrey for an interview to see if they meet the requirements. Criterion for applicants include the following: must hold the rank of Senior Airman or above, have completed Airman Leadership School, have a minimum of one year in the Air Force Reserve, have no more than 16 years of active-duty time, possess high moral standards, and have a passing fitness score.

If selected, applicants then attend an evaluation and selection course at the recruiting service headquarters at Warner-Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

"The week-long course is like a job interview," said the senior recruiter. "It serves as an opportunity for the recruiting service to see if you're a good fit, and it's also a chance for you to see if recruiting is a match for you."

Master Sgt. Dawn Serakowski, 512th AW in-service recruiter, encourages those interested in exploring recruiting as a possible career path.

"Of my 13 years in the Air Force, serving as a recruiter is the most rewarding position I have ever held," she said. "It's definitely an experience to be able to help recruits make life changing decisions, and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment."

Top candidates from the Warner Robins AFB course ship out to attend recruiting school, a six-week course held at Lackland AFB, Texas.

Instruction includes courses on the AF Reserve benefits and entitlements, program selection criteria, advertising and promotion, community relations, speech and salesmanship. Course emphasis is on student performance and practical application.
After the school, recruiters report to their gaining unit for nine months to a year of on-the-job-training.

"This training is paramount to getting the new recruiter up to speed," said Sergeant McCaffrey.

Sergeant McCaffrey said the path to holding the title of recruiter is rigorous, with many applicants and only a small percentage that successfully complete the process.

For those who do succeed, benefits include active-duty pay, special duty assignment pay, a supplemental clothing allowance along with the annual clothing allowance, and an out-of-pocket expense account.
