I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you, the members of the 512th Airlift Wing, for your service during the past year. This service couldn't be more aptly recognized than by being a member of the Air Force Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award winning team.

Remember this is not the 436th AW's award; it's a Dover Air Force Base award. Understand that you have the same right to the title as all other members of Team Dover. Therefore, I am in constant coordination with Col. Steven Harrison, 436th AW commander, to help ensure the prize money will be used to support total team projects.

I applaud your excellence in performing your job day in and day out, on UTAs and any other day the mission of the Air Force calls upon you to serve; you have been recognized for the sterling way in which you accomplish the mission.

In preparation for the Operational Readiness Inspection in July, almost 220 of our reservists and 500 active-duty members deployed to the Air National Guard's Combat Readiness Training Center in Michigan April 20-25. This was a great training opportunity as we've identified issues needing improvement. But just as important, we have identified areas of merit. I challenge you to not lose sight of these areas by only focusing on those issues requiring improvement. By continuing to recognize both areas of excellence and issues of improvement, we will attain a very successful ORI. The Air Mobility Command Inspector General will realize you are an organization of excellence.

Although the inspection is right around the corner, we must not lose sight of our day-to-day obligations. Expert execution of those obligations is what earned us distinction in installation excellence such as our continual focus on safety.

Most likely as you read this issue, you already made some plans for Memorial Day weekend and events occurring over the "101 Critical Days of Summer." Take the time to analyze the associated risks with whatever events you are planning and perform those activities in the safest manner possible. We need you, your civilian employer needs you and most importantly, your family needs you. You owe your safety to these three groups throughout the "101 Critical Days of Summer."

Enjoy the summer and stay focused with the knowledge that you are essential in accomplishing our mission; we can't complete our ORI without you!

Thank you for the service you provide for our nation, and I'm honored to be your commander.
