Maui Wowi: Word on the Street Published June 17, 2009 By 2nd Lt. Abigail Wise 436th Airlift Wing DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffees and Smoothies is creating quite the Hawaiian wave here at Dover AFB. Conveniently located just next to the Base Exchange, it has been a routine morning stop for many base employees. The shop opened June 1 and already has regular customers. Among the nearly unlimited choices there is something for everyone. There is sugar-free caramel, fat free fresh fruit smoothies but no matter what you order they all come with a warm smile and an 'Aloha'. The President Greg Goldman promotes the relaxed Hawaii atmosphere inside the shop and states "I just love when even the most serious looking customer can't help but smile in response to my cheery 'Aloha'." In fact, that is not the only thing Mr Goldman loves about his job, excluding the obvious which is free coffee every day. He actually pursued this location as soon as he heard it was available due to his appreciation for the military. Originally he was applying to open a Delaware beach location where he currently resides but now makes the 50-plus minute drive every morning so that he can work here on base. Naturally he does not have coffee prior to making his morning trek but waits until he arrives at Maui Wowi for his morning fix. Mr Goldman told me there have been three different coffee shops in this location in the last three years. However astonishing this fact is, Mr Goldman has a plan that he hopes will allow for everyone to win. "On top of having extremely competitive prices and the vast selection of drinks I and 100 percent dedicated to the customer. There are even well-priced individual bags of Maui Wowi coffee with big names like Kona, and monkey-shaped coconut cups". Said Mr. Goldman. Maui Wowi is new to the AAFES family, and relatively new to having locations on base so to start with a bang there is a grand opening July 19 where you can relax and enjoy a few moments in the Islands of Hawaii.
