Approximately 80 junior enlisted servicemembers from the 512th Airlift Wing attended the second annual Airman's Weekend, held during the September Unit Training Assembly in the Landings here.

The theme of the weekend event, "Building the Best in Citizen Airmen," had unit members participate in career-related activities including writing enlisted performance report bullets and learning more about professional military education.

Although the Airmen spent time learning about furthering their careers both with the military and as a civilian, they also participated in some more hands-on activities. Shortly after the weekend began, former drill instructors and now 512th AW reservists engaged the Airmen in an open-rank uniform inspection.

For some of the attendees, like Staff Sgt. Derrick Thomas, 512th Operations Group, the inspection was reminiscent of basic training.

"The open ranks part was definitely a good uniform refresher," said Sergeant Thomas.

Sunday's events focused more on readiness and the benefits a reservist has while serving. One event in particular, the chief's panel, allowed Airmen to interact with four chief master sergeants from the wing in an open question and answer forum.

Chief Master Sgt. David Schmid, 712th Maintenance Squadron, said he enjoyed being on the panel.

"The panel was awesome," said Chief Schmid. "The more time we spent talking, the more at ease the Airmen were. It was an honor to ... be a part of everything."

As the weekend event came to a close, the Airmen walked away with more knowledge on career advancement, readiness and benefits. All of which is valuable information they can pass on to fellow reservists.
