The 512th Airlift Wing Top 3 is giving away a free mess dress uniform to the winner of a patriotic essay contest. Anyone is eligible to enter, including active-duty and Reserve servicemembers, their families and civilians; however, the winner must ensure the uniform prize will be given to a Liberty Wing reservist, officer or enlisted.

"No matter how many stripes or bars you have, we understand the Air Force mess-dress uniform is a pricey investment," said Master Sgt. Veronica Aceveda, 512th Top 3 vice president. "We know there are Airmen out there who want to wear a mess-dress uniform to some of the wing's formal events but simply can't because of cost. So, we hope to help a few out and share some patriotic messages as well."

Another Top 3 officer said members should still enter the essay contest even if they already have a mess dress.

"This is an excellent opportunity for supervisors, friends and co-workers to win one for a fellow Airman," said Senior Master Sgt. Janet Hawkins, 512th Top 3 Treasurer. "We're grateful to be able to do this, and it's only possible because of annual Top 3 membership dues."

The contest's first prize is an Air Force mess-dress uniform not to exceed $400. There are also second and third prize gift cards to Military and Clothing Sales to help offset the cost of a mess-dress uniform.

For 12 weeks, beginning on Veterans Day and running until Feb. 3, writers can turn in their 300-word essay entitled, "Why do veterans deserve our support, respect and understanding?" to the 512th AW Public Affairs Office, located in Bldg. 520, Room 203. Essays can also be e-mailed to 512aw.pa@us.af.mil.

Public Affairs will narrow the essays down to the final five, and the Top 3 will select and announce the winners no later than Feb. 6.
