At the 512th Airlift Wing's biennial picnic Aug. 6 at Eagles Nest, there will be plenty of jungle gyms, games and water play to keep children of all ages entertained for hours.

In addition to the multiple playground areas at Eagles Nest, children can choose from a variety of inflatable attractions, including an 18-foot slide, an 80-foot obstacle course and two bounce houses.

"Each of the moon bounces will be divided into age groups to allow children to play together in a safe environment without the older kids having to worry about being careful around small children," said Tech. Sgt. Christin Michaud, 512th Airman and Family Readiness Office technician who helped coordinate the Kids Zone activities. "It will also allow little kids to bounce freely with children their own age."

To help combat the heat, there will be a water zone with a 22-foot super dual wave-water slide, a sprinkler and a kiddie pool.

"Having the water zone will be perfect for children who want to cool off and have fun," said Michaud.

Parents should bring bathing suits and a change of clothes for children who want to play in both the water area and the other inflatables, because use of the dry inflatable slide, obstacle course and bounce houses is limited to children who are wearing dry clothes.

Another refreshing treat will be the ice cream truck, which will provide free ice cream novelties while supplies last.

Other child favorites include face painting, a coloring area, a variety of games, soccer and more.

Operation Military Kids will be onsite with their 4-H program activities for the children as well, added Laura Coseglia, AF&R director.

And, for those who like to sing and dance, the entertainment stage will feature live performances from the Air Force band "Rhythm and Blues" from Langley Air Force Base, Va., and country music star Joe Diffie.

This picnic is a win-win event, especially with the giveaways coordinated by the 436th Force Support Squadron. Prizes will range from local business gift cards to theme park passes.

With so many activities planned for the children, parents are encouraged to bring sunscreen, lawn chairs or blankets and sit back, relax, and watch the children have some summer fun.
