512th AW Civic Leader Tour
Dr. Bill Johnston (right), Wesley College president, takes a closer look at a weather instrument called a dropsonde, during a Hurricane Hunters tour Feb. 19. Dr. Johnston is one of 19 civic leaders from Dover and surrounding areas, who participated in the 512th Airlift Wing's Civic Leader Tour to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., and Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Briefed by 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron members, tour-goers learned how reservists fly into the center of storms or hurricanes and release the dropsonde, which collects and measures various data in direct support of the National Hurricane Center. Also pictured is Tony DePrima, city manager of Dover. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Veronica A. Aceveda)
