Part of history
Capt. Marci Matthews, a C-5 pilot assigned to the 709th Airlift Squadron, presents the Congressional Gold Medal to Anne Lesnikowski, one of the Women Air Force Service Pilots from the 1940s. Of the 300 surviving WASPs, about 200 attended the medal presentation in the nation's Capitol March 10. Captain Matthews is one of five female aviators from the 512th Operations Group, who volunteered to serve as a personal WASP escort for the two-day event, honoring all WASPs March 9-10. Also pictured is Ms. Lesnikowski's nephew.
