"Flat Stanley" flies with 326th AS

Flat Stanley, "Caroline," hitches a ride with the 326th Airlift Squadron here upon a C-17 Globemaster III May 7-9. Flat Stanley is a children's book written in 1964 by author Jeff Brown following the adventures of a completely flat boy who visits his friends by being mailed in an envelope. The Flat Stanley Project was started in 1995 by Dale Hubert, a third grade schoolteacher in Ontario, Canada. The project is intended to facilitate schoolchildren's letter-writing skills by creating a Flat Stanley and having children document where it has been through letters and pictures. Flat Stanley "Caroline" was sent to Col. Randal L. Bright, 512th Airlift Wing commander, by Caroline Friend, the 8-year old daughter of the Bright family's former neighbor while stationed at Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station. "Caroline" joined the 326th AS and the 452nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., on a training mission extending from California to Colorado and back.
